Stolen electric wires recovered in Kasese

Police in Kasese District have recovered over one metric ton of electricity wires from suspected thieves.

The wires were found in a room occupied by Nyasio Kule, a resident of Katonzi Cell, Nyakabingo II Ward, Bulembia Division.

In addition to the wires, police also recovered tools believed to have been used for breaking into houses and vandalizing electric wires.

The wires reportedly belong to Kilembe Mines Limited, a local electricity supply company.

John Baptist Bukombi, the LC1 Chairperson of Katonzi Cell, has revealed that local leaders had been tracking the suspect for some time.

The suspect is currently on the run.

Jafari Kighutiya, the LC1 Chairperson of Basa Camp, mentioned that the division has been experiencing frequent thefts, with thugs mainly targeting items they can sell as scrap.

He noted that the suspect had previously been in police custody for theft-related offenses but was released under unclear circumstances.

Luke Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Community Liaison Officer stated that police have seized the recovered items as evidence while they continue to pursue the suspect and his accomplices.
