Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson while addressing the press at Naguru on Monday

Police have advised school administrators to examine returning students and pupils to establish whether they have been victims of any violence during the holidays.

Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson while addressing the press at Naguru on Monday noted that this exercise should be conducted by the teachers and nurses mostly on boarding students.

According to the data from UNICEF, most children in Uganda have experienced physical violence that threatens and halts their holistic and positive development with 59 per cent of girls and 68 per cent of boys being victims.

Rusoke says that many children are always subjected to violence whenever they are on holiday by their parents but schools don’t take the burden of examining them when they report back.

He further noted that School administrators should also conduct thorough checkups on student’s property to see that they don’t smuggle illegal materials into schools.

Rusoke now appeals to parents to ensure that they are security cautious about their children when they drop them to schools especially by having an adult person who escorts young children to school.

Meanwhile, Kituuma has also appealed to school administrators to conduct fire and security drills to students that can adopt in case of any fire outbreaks in schools.
