Parliament to investigate claims by people neighbouring game parks

Deputy Speaker in the house

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has directed the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism to investigate the compensation process of affected persons by stray wild animals from game parks.

This has been after several Members of Parliament representing areas neighboring game parks, complained that wild animals have persistently killed people and destroyed their crops but the Government is reluctant to compensate the victims.

This also attracted the Deputy Speaker’s attention adding his voice to that of the MPs saying the same problem has occurred in his constituency of Ruhinda North in Mitooma district.

Parliament has also demanded to know from the GOVERNMENT how far they had gone in putting electric fences on game parks to prevent wild animals from crossing to nearby residential areas.

It’s from this that Tayebwa gave the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism one week to investigate the matter and report back to Parliament on the same.
