Internal Affairs Ministry summons citizen over diplomatic passport saga

Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Spokesperson of the Internal Affairs Ministry

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has summoned one Rugirwa Katatumba, the son of the former Honorary Consul of Pakistan to Uganda, the late Bonny Mwebasa Katatumba for posing to be in possession of a diplomatic passport yet they have never issued him one.

Last week, social media was full with videos and photos of Rugirwa while holding a diplomatic passport that he claimed to have got from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Addressing a news conference at the Police headquarters at Naguru, Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Spokesperson of the Internal Affairs Ministry noted that they have never issued a diplomatic passport to Rugirwa Katatumba, hence summoning him to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to explain where he got the said diplomatic passport he was displaying on social media.

Mundeyi also noted that their records indicate that Rugirwa applied for an ordinary passport on April 10th 2021 which he eventually collected from the Kyambogo Passport Center on November 22nd 2021.
