UPC Welcomes Sacking of KCCA Officials

UPC Party Spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat - story by Charles Katabalwa

The opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to deal with the corruption and negligence in public institutions.

The call was made by the Party Spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat during their weekly presser held at the party headquarters a=t Uganda House in Kampala following the dismissal of the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy Eng. David Luyimbazi Ssali and the Director of Public Health, Dr. Daniel Okello over the damning report by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) regarding the Kiteezi landfill collapse, which highlighted serious negligence and oversight failures.

The Kiteezi landfill collapse on August 10th 2024 resulted in the death of over 35 people and displaced many others, leaving Kampala and the surrounding areas without a proper garbage dumping site resulting in accumulated garbage on the streets of the city and the neighbouring areas.

Arach highlights that the party welcomes President Museveni’s decision to sack the three officers; emphasizing that corruption and negligence have become entrenched in Uganda’s public institutions, with little action taken against the errant public officials.

According to Arach, serious action against corruption and negligence in public institutions will ensure transparency and accountability by those holding the public offices.
