At least six candidates have been nominated to contest in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election on October 25th 2024.

The seat fell vacant last month following the death of Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, who also doubled as the State Minister for Defense.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson while nominating the candidates in a three day exercise that commenced on Wednesday at Kyadondo, noted that they expect the exercise to be free and fair.

The 13 women that expressed interest in contesting in the primaries are; former area MP Rose Kabagyeni, Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, Sylvia Dushime, Winifred Faith Igiraneza, Blessed Kitentera, Irene Mahirwe, Hellen Mbonye, Fancy Brenda Nirere, Louise Niyikiriza, Allen Nkurikiye, Eva Twizera, Irene Mahirwe and Jemimah Irankunda.

The national by-elections will be conducted on November 14th 2024 according to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
