St. Thereza Namilyango Girls School Celebrates Platinum Jubilee

Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza

The Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza has asked Christians from Lugazi diocese to start plans of putting up a hospital in Namiryango to offer proper health services to the people of this area.

The Bishop made this call as he led the platinum jubilee celebrations of St. Thereza Namilyango Girls Primary School in Lugazi Diocese on Saturday with a Eucharistic thanksgiving where he conferred the sacrament of confirmation to over 70 pupils.

Bishop Kakooza revealed how he is having sleepless nights thinking of how this can be put in place as they commemorate the 75 years of this school’s existence.

The Bishop also called for renovation of the old school properties that were put up 75 years ago as a way of giving back to the school which has molded many formidable citizens of Uganda.

In his homily still, His Lordship thanked the Sisters of Our Lady of Africa popularly known as the White Sisters who founded the school in 1949 and later handed it over to the Little Sisters of St. Francis Nkokonjeru.

Bishop Kakooza noted that many people who have gone through this institute are noble figures in this country because of the background they received.

The Bishop first commissioned a new building which has been built at the school as a souvenir for the celebration and also planted a tree in recognition for the need to preserve the environment.

The school’s platinum jubilee celebration was graced by hundreds of faithful who included parents, well-wishers and members of the academia to celebrate its existence and achievements.

Some of the notable attendees included; the Buganda County Chief of Kyaggwe, Ssekiboobo Vincent Matovu, the Mukono LCV Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa and the Mayor of Mukono Municipality, Kagimu Kiwanuka.

During the offertory time, the school offered 75 bottles of altar wine and 75 packets of hosts, symbolizing a remarkable 75 years of existence of the school.
