The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Namisango Kamya Turwomwe has called upon public servants to change their mindset while on-call serving the country in public offices.
Her call follows over 1,000 complaints registered from the public against public servants who continuously abuse public office from which they have saved the country Shs 9.6 billion in recovery.
She explains that it’s crucial for public servants to know how to deal with members of the public.
Out of the 1,000 complaints filed to the Inspectorate of Government’s office in the last financial year 2022/23, they have worked on 636 complaints that include; 135 cases from Ministries, Departments and Agencies and 501 complaints from Local Governments, of which 75 cases were boardroom sessions for Local Governments.
She disclosed this ahead of the Ombudsman’s Day celebrated annually every second Thursday of October across the country and this year it is going to be celebrated on November 6th 2024.
According to a study that was conducted by the IGG, Uganda loses close to shs 10 trillion annually to corruption.
