Uganda Police contacts Interpol in “abducted” Indian Chef’s Case

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke

The Uganda Police Force have contacted their counterparts of Tanzania through the International Police (Interpol) to get the Indian chef who was recently kidnapped and transported to Mutukula in Tanzania.

Kumesh Menaria was suspected to have been kidnapped inside a factory owned by his employers on the outskirts of Kampala City and later driven to Tanzania after Police attempted to rescue him.

Menaria was allegedly flown to Uganda from Sweden where he was working as a chef for one of his fellow Indian nationals and was later driven out to Mutukula where he was arrested and detained at Shaka Police Station in Tanzania about 20 kilometers from the Uganda border.

Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson says they have discovered that Menaria was driven by a Ugandan driver to Tanzania identified as William Mugisha, who is currently arrested.

He says that although Menaria is having a case in Tanzania, the Ugandan Police is making arrangements with Tanzanian police to repatriate him to Uganda and help in the ongoing investigations.

Menaria’s boss, Pankaj Oswald recently sent an open letter to President Yoweri Museveni complaining that he was being blackmailed by extortionists which led to the arrest of his daughter Basundhara Oswald and their lawyer Rita Ngabire.
