Bishop Ssekkadde Laid to Rest at Namirembe

The Catholic Church has joined the Anglican Church in Uganda to mourn the demise of Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde, Bishop Emeritus of Namirembe Diocese under the Church of Uganda.

The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has consoled the family of the late Bishop Ssekkaddewho has beenlaid to rest at Namirembe Cathedral this afternoon.

In his message read by the Second Vicar General of Kampala, Msgr. Gerald Kalumba during the last prayers for the late Bishop Ssekkadde at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe, Archbishop Ssemogerere said the country has lost a good shepherd.

The late Bishop Ssekkadde, 80, died on Monday evening on October 14th 2024 at Kisubi Hospital after a short illness. 

Politicians, cultural leaders and well-wishers converged at Namirembe Cathedral to pay their last respects and attend the burial ceremony.

Many have credited the late Bishop Ssekkadde for his remarkable 50-year service as a devoted shepherd of God’s flock with 15 years as the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese.

The Archbishop of Uganda, Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu in his speech at Namirembe Cathedral has described the late Bishop Ssekkadde as a committed religious leader, family man, entrepreneur who also haboured political inclinations.

Meanwhile, in his massage the Bishop Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa, who is currently on his pastoral visit in Lubanja Zone of Mityana Cathedral Parish noted that the fraternity of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) has lost a member who has been so instrumental to their development.

He sympathized with the family of the late and the entire Church of Uganda noting that much as he has been unable to attend the burial he has been ably represented by some of the members of the UJCC Board and assured his prayers to the deceased.
