National Chairman of the party, Jack Sabiiti

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has advised its members to remain focused on rebuilding their party to give Ugandans the long awaited political change they are yearning for.

This has been disclosed by the National Chairman of the party, Jack Sabiiti during the 18th National Council Meeting held at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi on Thursday under the theme; “Beyond all Obstacles, A Cohesive FDC on Path to Success”.

Sabiiti explains that the party has undergone a lot of challenges which include opportunists who are working for its failure, however, he says if all FDC supporters remain united, determined and focused, they will emerge victorious.

The meeting was attended by various members of the National Council who include; over 10 Members of Parliament on the party ticket.

These included the Chua West MP Phillip Polly Okin Ojara who disclosed that he is being pressured by those of the Katonga group to join them, an idea he feels is not right to betray himself and the electorate who voted him into parliament on the FDC ticket.

Meanwhile, the FDC National Council has reappointed Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda in acting capacity as the Chairperson of the party’s Electoral Commission until the next sitting of the party’s Delegates’ Conference.

Bamwenda who has been in office since 2018 for his first term as the chairperson of the party’s electoral commission. His term had ended so they had to appoint another person or re-appoint him for a second term in office.

Now the 18th National Council Meeting that sat at the party headquarters on Thursday unanimously agreed and reappointed Toterebuka and what awaits now is the National Delegates’ Conference to sit and either confirm his appointment or appoint another person.

The National Council also reappointed Bamwenda’s election committee members that include; Judith Kabanda, Priscilla Mpairirwe, Haji Abdallah Moli, Joe Emusu Ediegu, Richard Kudeeba and Dr. Alex Okot.

The meeting also appointed the Mawokota South Member of Parliament Yusuf Nsibambi as the Chairperson of the party’s Constitutional Review Commission.

This is ahead of the move to review the party’s constitution and make some changes that have not been disclosed.

The National Council also appointed the Masindi Municipality Member of Parliament Joab Businge as the deputy President of the Party Western Region, Denis Rom, the Lamogi Sub County Chairperson in Amuru district as the Deputy Secretary for Agriculture.

These seats remained vacant after nobody was elected during the party’s delegates conference that was held in October of 2023.

Before these appoints, Members of Parliament on the FDC ticket such as Yusuf Nsibambi, the Mawokota South MP who is Party’s Whip in Parliament, Gilbert Olanya (Kilak South), Herbert Ariko (Soroti City), Joan Acom Alobo (Woman MP Soroti City), and Phillip Polly Okin Ojara (Chua West) appealed to their fellow members to keep belief in the party since all those who parted ways with the party didn’t have much to add and they are trying had in parliament to coerce them but they have failed.
