Uganda Martyrs University 30th Graduation

The Archbishop of Gulu Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace Raphael Wokorach has rallied the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) graduands to obtain a purposeful life as they approach a new life in the society.

While delivering his homily during the mass for the 30th graduation ceremony at UMU main campus at Nkozi, Mpigi district, Archbishop Wokorach noted that graduands should possess an angel that touches the wounds of people in society.

He encouraged the graduands to use the skills attained by emulating Mother Mary who Angel Gabriel met and made the pronouncement of bearing a new humanity that transformed the world.

In the same vein, His Grace Wokorach urged the graduands to reflect the image of their university that was named after the Uganda Martyrs, wherever they are heading.

Meanwhile, the Bishop Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Dr. Joseph Antony Zziwa while delivering his speech as the Chancellor at the 30th Graduation Ceremony noted that the Uganda Martyrs left a legacy for standing for the truth and justice which the graduands should emulate.

The Vice Chancellor of UMU, Prof Patrick Kyamanywa also encouraged graduands to avoid being taken by the things of the world but to have integrity in the community they are to live in.

At the same ceremony, the Archbishop Emeritus of Gulu, Most Rev. John Baptist Odama was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) (Honoris Causa) in recognition for his unwavering contribution to defend human rights and civil liberties, in his time of service as the Archbishop.

The University commended His Grace Odama for his illustrious 50 years-plus spiritual career through which he defended the rights of people and resolved conflicts especially in Northern Uganda during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel insurgency.

Bishop Antony Zziwa who is also the UMU Chancellor hailed the former University Chancellor, Archbishop Odama for serving the institution during his period of chancellorship.

Recently, Gulu University awarded Archbishop Odama a honorary doctorate of Philosophy for his outstanding role in the restoration of peace in Northern Uganda.

Meanwhile, UMU has also awarded the Managing Director of Centenary Bank Fabian Kasi an Honorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contribution towards social economic development in the country.
