The Uganda Law Society’s New Council leadership has recalled its former President Ruth Ssebatindira from representation to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) with immediate effect.
According to the ULS leadership, Ssebatindira and Norah Matovu Winyi have illegally been serving at the JSC by representing the Society without being elected as stipulated in the Uganda Law Society Election Regulations 2016 and the 1956 Uganda Law Society Act Cap 305.
Addressing the press at the ULS headquarters in Kampala, Isaac Ssemakadde, the Society President says Ssebatindira, Winyi and all other officials representing ULS at the JSC and other statutory bodies should stop their duties from Tuesday October 29th 2024.
He says that USL Council will on December 31st, 2024 convene an extraordinary meeting to elect their representatives to the JSC and other statutory bodies except the Society representatives to the Law Council who were duly elected.
Ssemakadde further says that the Council shall facilitate nationwide complaints from members of the public regarding issues of corruption, impunity, non-performance, incompetence among others within the Judiciary and the JSC which will be compiled and sent to Parliament and cabinet for appropriate action.
