KCCA Wants Garbage Collectors to Start Sorting, Recycling

KCCA WASTE

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has held a stakeholders engagement for those involved in solid waste management to discuss how they can transform garbage into usable products.

The meeting intended to identify stakeholders who are ready and willing to collect sorted waste from city dwellers like electronics, plastics and decomposing garbage for recycling and decomposition.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the meeting which was held at City Hall in Kampala, the Manager Solid Waste and Environmental Management at KCCA, James Kunobere said if stakeholders can consume all the city’s garbage, there will be no need to procure land for a new landfill following the collapse of the Kiteezi landfill.

Meanwhile, he cautioned members of the public who do not want to pay garbage collection fees and the quack companies that go through households asking for lesser fees for garbage collection yet they do not have where to dump the garbage.
