President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has donated Shs 1.1bn for the completion of the external works of the All Saints Cathedral Nakasero.
While presiding over at the official opening of the 5,000 seater Cathedral, Museveni appealed to the clergy to use their talents to be exemplary to their followers.
He however revealed that he is not impressed with people who claim to be Christians yet they live miserable lives.
During the same occasion the President handed over a brand new car to the newly consecrated Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala Ven. Rev. Canon Fredrick Jackson Baalwa who was installed on Friday.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu applauded President Museveni for his continued support to the Church of Uganda but however reminded him about the Government’s unfulfilled compensation promise for the land being used by Makerere University that belongs to Church and also the Bishop James Hannington Day that has not been gazetted as a public holiday.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Church Construction Committee, Canon Vivian Igundura confirmed that they have so far spent Shs 25bn on the construction of the new cathedral and are looking for Shs 7.5bn for the exterior works, which will total Shs 32.5bn when it’s completed.
