Former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) top officials, who include the sacked Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her former Deputy Eng. David Luyimbazi Ssali and the former Director of Public Health Services and Environment, Dr. Daniel Okello, have been granted bail by the Kasangati Chief Magistrates Court on Monday.
The trio faces 34 counts of manslaughter and 21 charges for causing harm through reckless or negligent acts stemming from the August 10th 2024 Kiteezi landfill tragedy that claimed 35 lives and left many people injured.
The KasangatiChief Magistrate Beatrice Kainzagranted the three accused a cash bail of shillings 5 million each, with their sureties required to execute a non-cash bond of shillings 100 million each.
They have been ordered to deposit their original passports in court and are prohibited from leaving the country without permission.
The hearing has been adjourned until November 26th, 2024.
The officers were arrested on October 16, arraigned before court on October 18, 2024 and were remanded to Luzira Prisons until Monday November 4, 2024.
