Kabalega Airport to Start Running after Installation of Control Tower

Kabalega Airport to Start Running

The Kabalega International Airport is only remaining with fixing the Air Traffic Control Tower to start-off the operations, the contractor has noted.

The contractor, a joint venture of Israeli-British firms, Shikun and Binui International (SBI/Colas Limited) had initially planned to handover the airport to the Government last month but this has since been pushed to next year.

According to SBC, the change in the design of the control tower impacted a lot on the progress of the construction of the airport hence causing delays.

Speaking to journalists who toured the airport on Thursday, Amos Muriisa, the Public Relations Officer of SBC Uganda Limited, the company contracted to build the airport in the oil city of Hoima, says they are waiting for the Control Tower to be imported so that it is fixed and the facility starts operations.

The air traffic control tower commonly known as control tower prevents collisions, organizes and expedites the flow of aerodrome traffic and provides information and other support to pilots.

Recently, during a guided tour at the airport, Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Transport said that currently the Government has so far spent 1.08 trillion shillings out of shillings 1.188 trillion budgeted for the Kabalega airport construction works.
