Opposition politicians formerly of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga Faction who are currently pushing for the registration of a new political party the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) have vowed to petition the Kenyan High Commission in Uganda to get clarity on the arrest of their leader; Dr. Kizza Besigye by Ugandan security operatives in Kenya last week.
Dr. Besigye, the founding FDC President, and his colleague Haji Obed Kamulegeya Lutale were on Wednesday charged in the General Court Martial at Makindye with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition after their arrest on November 16, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya, and were remanded to Luzira prison until December 2nd 2024.
The Faction’s Spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda revealed to journalists at their Katonga Road offices in Kampala that they have decided on Monday next week to match to the Kenyan High Commission in Kololo, Kampala to petition them over these arrests and also want to know if there is an agreement signed between Uganda and Kenya barring opposition from going to Kenya.
Ssemujju meanwhile assured the public that Besigye and Kamulegeya are in good condition irrespective of them being in jail.
He has also called upon the General Court Martial to go to their Katonga Road offices and arrest all the leaders there after they claimed that the people who were with Besigye in committing the offences are currently on the run.
