The Banyarwanda Development Cultural Association has rejected a report by the Parliament of Uganda on the discrimination and persecution of Ugandans of the Banyarwanda tribe by those in Authority.
The report by the Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs dated October 2024 has recommended that the Banyarwanda who cannot trace their lineage but were born in Uganda should seek other legal forms of Ugandan citizenship, however if they are still dissatisfied by decisions by agencies like the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control and the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) they should follow the disputes resolution process prescribed under the law.
Addressing journalists in Kampala on Friday, Simon Kayitana, the Chairperson of the Association UMBUBANO Task Force says the Members of Parliament recommendation of what they describe as naturalization of the Banyarwanda is uncalled for from the legislators who are facilitated by taxpayers’ money to protect rights and freedoms of all Ugandans including the Banyarwanda.
Meanwhile, Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the Legal Advisor of UMUBANO says the report should be disregarded because it is discriminatory, unfair, oppressive and unjust.
He recommended the need to amend Article 10 of the Constitution of Uganda on the sociological applications to determine citizenship by birth and other discriminations.
