The Bishop of Kasana Luweero Diocese Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa has appealed to Buganda Kingdom to prevail over errant families that are attacking the Catholic Church claiming ownership of its land.
Bishop Mukasa who first acknowledged Buganda Kingdom for its contribution to the Evangelisation mission of the Catholic Church through donating land that has supported development for all, says grandchildren of the then Kabaka’s chiefs who administered the donated land with the aid of scrupulous people are forcefully encroaching and claiming ownership of church land following the death of their parents.
This was during the celebrations of the 125 years of existence of Our lady of Grace Nandere Parish in Kasana Luweero Diocese where in the presence of the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga Bishop Mukasa tasked him to prevail over the grand children for their misbehavior.
It was in the year 1899 in the wisdom of the Kabaka Daudi Chwa that he donated a square Milo of land to the White Fathers to establish the first Catholic Church in Bulemezi County, now Our Lady of Grace Nandere Parish an opportunity said to be rear now days.
Bishop Mukasa praised the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Matthias Jjoga and his assistants, the Parish Council, the leaders and all Christians in Nandere Parish for Evangelising the people.
Bishop Mukasa reminded the gathering about the advent season that is in its second week saying that“ You Christians when you hear His voice do not harden your hearts” prepare for the coming of the messiah.
Nandere, the oldest Parish in Kasana Luwero diocese has got remarkable social development structures among others; St. Kizito Nandere minor Seminary, St. Johns SSS Nandere, Bethany Land Institute, St. Theresa Boys and St. Theresa Girls Primary Schools all belonging to the Catholic Church.
Our Lady of Grace Nandere Parish now one of the 21 Parishes in Kasana Luweero diocese has got 11 sub parishes with a kind of mixed income population that is semi urban and rural with a number of learning institutions.
President Museveni who was expected to officiate as the guest of honour was represented by Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa the Minster of Energy.
