The President of the Democratic Party (DP), Norbert Mao has laughed off the formation of a new political pressure group dubbed the Democratic Alliance by former members of his party.
On Friday last week, the Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba together with some DP-Bloc members launched the Democratic Alliance aimed at improving the political status in the country through peaceful transition, the group said.
While speaking to the press at the DP party offices at Balintuma Road, Rubaga Division, Mao questioned the formation saying initially the same group claimed he was the problem in the DP reason why they left to join other parties which they have abandoned within a short time to form another coalition.
Mao says this is proof enough that these people are the problem to the opposition political arena in the country.
He mocked the group behind the Alliance saying they will not bring anything new to Uganda’s politics but are rather looking to serve their selfish interests but hastened to add that his heart rests since they are no longer blaming the DP at this moment in time.
Some of the renowned politicians who graced the launch of the Democratic Alliance included; the Kimaanya-Kabonera MP Dr. Abed Bwanika, former Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante, former presidential candidate Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, and former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke among others.
