CSOs Push Gov’t to Improve Health Sector Funding

The National Medical Director AHF Uganda Cares, Dr. Augustine Lubanga presenting

Civil Society Organizations and Health Advocates want the Government to enhance resource allocation to health facilities, and increase preventive measures, to curb Mpox cases in the country.

They are concerned that as climate change accelerates, there are high risks of disease outbreaks therefore the Government must build a robust health system capable of managing endemic diseases as well as responding to emerging and reemerging threats.

This was revealed as Mpox cases in the country now stand at 800, with 102 active Mpox cases admitted, 546 discharged and 4 fatalities.

Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area records the highest cases at 64%, Kampala only has 364 confirmed cases, Mukono has 25 cases, Wakiso has 112 cases with other nearby districts including Nakasongola standing at 69 cases, Mayuge 25 cases and Luweero 25 cases as well.

The National Medical Director AHF Uganda Cares, Dr. Augustine Lubanga during a media briefing at AHF Uganda Cares headquarters in Kamwokya noted that the Government should increase awareness campaigns on prevention, treatment and stigma reduction with emphasis on high risk communities.
