Police Increases Traffic Operations to Curb Accidents

Police have warned motorists driving vehicles in a dangerous mechanical condition and those without driving documents like licenses and badges for buses, that they are candidates of arrest.

This comes ahead of the festive season that includes the Christmas and New Year celebration holidays.

Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that they have so far arrested 117 drivers without driving licenses and for over speeding from the established snap checks on roadways.

He adds that 490 vehicles were impounded and 940 motorcycle riders were arrested last week in operations enhanced on the roads intended to secure the travelers. 

Kananura further says that buses traveling over 300km will not be allowed to make a return journey while bus drivers without badges and driving licenses will also be arrested.

He says that school vans have been banned from operating as passenger vehicles during this festive season.
