Kampala Metropolitan Generally Peaceful During Festive Season – Police

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area indicate that they registered a peaceful and successful festive season with few incidents recorded from 23rd to 26th of December 2024.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson attributes this to the community policing exercise that was conducted in all the Divisions of Kampala and other areas prior to the festive season under the theme; “Crime Free Festive Season”.

According to Onyango, some of the few incidents include a case of a Pastor of Ebenezer Ministries Kajjansi identified as Clifford Ssenyonjo who was alleged to have shot and injured 24 year old Allan Muyimbwa, a resident of Katale zone in Kajjansi who sneaked into the Pastor’s house to meet his daughter at Kivumbu zone, Bunamwaya Parish, Wakiso district on December 24th.

He further says that another incident was recorded in Kizungu zone, Makindye division on Christmas Day where a dead body with bruises on both the legs and the hands and blunt cut on the head, suspected to have been killed somewhere else was allegedly dumped in the area.

Onyango says Jinja Road Police Station also arrested 14 youths after conducting an operation on Boxing Day at Kinawataka-Katoogo Highland Ghetto area where they had planned to attack and snatch phones from revelers returning from several entertainment events that had been organized in the area.

Meanwhile, the security situation in Mukono district was also generally calm due to the intensified security in the area which has been deployed to protect Ugandans as they celebrate the festive season.

In an exclusive interview with our reporter, the deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Mukono district, Hassan Kasibante attributed the calm situation in the area to the continued engagement of various stakeholders before the festive season.

He says that although Christmas was well spent, they are still on alert since Ugandans are preparing to celebrate the ushering in of the New Year.

However, as politicians are planning for the 2026 general elections with major activities expected to start in 2025, Kasibante warns that they will not tolerate any interference from politicians in areas where they collect taxes and no politicians will be allowed to hold rallies in the area before clearance from the National Independent Electoral Commission.
