I Will Stand Again in 2026 – Kyagulanyi

NUP party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu

The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has announced his intentions to stand again as a presidential candidate in the coming 2026 general elections.

During his end of year press conference on Monday at his home in Magere, Wakiso district, Kyagulanyi said he is very ready to contest in the 2026 general elections as the NUP candidate unless the party chooses another capable candidate.

Kyagulanyi adds that Uganda is yearning for good leadership of which his party is ready to offer. However Kyagulanyi has challenged the educated youths to come up and grab the leadership positions to avoid being led by half baked leaders.

Kyagulanyi also lashed out at the Uganda Police Force and other security forces over failure to come up with reports on various shootings and other major crimes that have happened in the country in the year 2024.

He said that ever since the shootings started in the country mostly on so-called big people, no clear report has been given and he also blamed the police for being partisan which has denied opposition players the right to peacefully engage in their political activities.

At the same presser, Kyagulanyi also condemned the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Keneirugaba over his unprofessional posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account that are likely to cause problems for the country. He however advised President Yoweri Museveni as Commander in Chief to reign in on him.

Meanwhile, Kyagulanyi has also criticized the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government for failing to curb the increasing corruption tendencies in the country.

He said it’s absurd that even the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among was accused of pocketing billions of taxpayers’ money but wasn’t charged or tried in the courts of law.

Kyagulanyi adds that as responsible citizens and some opposition political parties, they have been talking and fighting to end this vice but unfortunately the Government has been blocking them and referred to their fight as mere political talks.

He further said that even the Government went on to intimidate citizens especially the youths who came out to fight against corrupt tendencies through arresting them and keeping them in unlawful police custody for days.
