A total of 236 drivers were apprehended during the Christmas period by the Traffic and Road Safety Police across the country.
Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says among the suspects, 78 drivers were found without driving permits while 110 were driving exceeding the speed limit.
He says 16 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol while 32 drivers were reckless on the road.
These were apprehended between December 23rd and 30th, 2024 as explained by Kananura.
He however emphasizes that in this Christmas period, they recorded few accidents and they were minor compared to other years and these were basically caused by motorcycles.
Meanwhile, Traffic Police plans to extend the possession of driver badges from buses drivers to those of coasters and 14 seater minibuses commonly referred to as taxis after discovering that it has worked in controlling bad driving and accidents on the roads.
