Police Arrests 4 in China Town Supermarket Theft

Police have arrested four people in connection to the theft of items from the Lugogo based China Town Supermarket in Kampala along Jinja Road.

According to the Police, employees of the supermarket have been conniving with some people to purchase products using forged receipts.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson says that they discovered this after arresting one Muhammad Nyanzi on Saturday December 28th 2024 at around 8 pm who was found with items and forged receipts from China Town Supermarket.

He says upon arrest, Nyanzi informed the police that he was given the forged receipts by his cousin brother, Ali Kagingo who is an employee of China Town Supermarket and was directed to use them in picking items from the supermarket.

Rusoke adds that during the operations they searched the home Rehema Kagingo in Kikulo village, Kikaaya parish, Kawempe division and the home of Ali Kagingo in Ddungu zone, still in Kawempe where several suspected stolen items from China Town Supermarket worth 50 million shillings were recovered.

Owoyesigyire says others under arrest are; Dickens Nuwamanya, Bruce David Muzahura, Brian Mpanja as well as Muhammad Nyanzi.

However, Rusoke emphasizes that they are hunting for two suspects identified as Ali Kagingo and Rehema Kagingo, all employees of China Town Supermarket, for masterminding the forgery of receipts which they give to customers to shop and later share the products.
