Lubaga South Member of Parliament Aloysius Mukasa has said that the new leadership of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) will not perform if it’s still based on political affiliation and interests.
He says leaders have always been appointed due to individual interests and political failure instead of professional ability to serve the institutions fairly.
Recently,President Museveni appointed Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new KCCA Executive Director and Benon Kigenyi as her deputy.
Buzeki replaces Dorothy Kisaka, who, along with two other top KCCA officials; Eng. David Luyimbazi and Dr. Daniel Okello, the then Director of Public Health were dismissed following the catastrophic collapse of the Kiteezi landfill on August 10th 2024. The tragedy claimed over 30 lives, prompting a directive from the President to revamp the KCCA leadership.
Mukasa says KCCA has always been embroiled in political wrangles, poor financial support and State House interference which leave the leadership vulnerable hence extending poor services to the locals. He prays that such habits change as the new leadership starts their tenure.
