The new Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Hajat Sharifah Buzeki has warned the Authority staff against laziness and corruption.
She revealed this shortly after being sworn in as the new E.D of KCCA along with her deputy Benon Kigenyi on Wednesday at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour at City Hall, Kampala saying that a lot has been said and others described her as a tough person but such personality descriptions only come about when people fail to execute their roles and responsibilities.
Buzeki has pointed out her work plan with the priority being on collection of garbage in the city, implementing the Kampala Smart City agenda, maintaining the trade order, and beautification of the city among others.
The outgoing acting Executive Director of KCCA, Frank Nyakaana Rusa appreciated KCCA staff for the support and cordial working relationship he has had with them for the last 111 days since September 2024 and tabled key issues to deal with by the new Authority leadership which include; solid waste management, interferences within the newly constructed Busega market, corruption in the Authority, influx of street kids, and failure to implement the work plans among others.
The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President, Haji Yunus Kakande advised the new Executive Director to ensure that the Government has total support in the city, work with the political wing at the Authority and seek advice from the Minister for Kampala whenever need arises. He added that preparation and submission of monthly reports to the Ministry is paramount for the smooth running of the Authority.
The Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, Lucy Nakyobe advised Buzeki to ensure that she improves the infrastructure in the city and advised her to remain a humble servant.
Meanwhile, the Lord Mayor for Kampala City, Erias Lukwago welcomed the new Executive Director with skepticism whether she will be supported to execute her roles due to governance challenges, lack of structural and accountability plans, impunity among others.
The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda advised Buzeki to foster teamwork and be open to new ideas.
