EC Urges Ugandans to Participate in Voters’ Register Update Exercise

Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama

The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama has called upon all Ugandans to participate in the coming exercise of the update of the voters’ register that is slated for 20 January-10 February 2025.

The objective of the update of the voters’ register is to enable all Ugandans of 18 years and above to register and participate in the 2026 general elections, to enable all those who transferred from one area to another to register and also enable all other Ugandans to check their particulars of the polling stations on the voters register.

He made the call through the Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Kampala region, Dr. Sallie Simba Kayunga saying that the voters’ register update must be a clean exercise that ensures that all Ugandans aged 18 and above are registered to participate in the 2026 general elections.

Simba advised all those planning to contest for various electoral positions in 2026 to encourage all Ugandans to participate in this exercise because all the nominees and their seconders must be in the register and once they are not, those vying for elective positions will lose out.

He also noted that a clean voters’ register is crucial because once a person files a case against the Electoral Commission that they were left out, it can affect the entire electoral process, hence appealing to everyone to take part to avoid being left out.
