The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has officially established the Sub County Policing Model with a deployment of over 10,000 personnel across the country.
This is in response to President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to the IGP to deploy 18 Police Officers per Sub County with the necessary security facilities to work with leaders at the village level through use of telephones to deal with the increasing crime rates.
While addressing the media at the Police headquarters at Naguru, Kampala on Wednesday, Byakagaba said that this model is starting with eight Police Regions including; North West, Rwizi, Kira, Rwenzori East, Sipi, Greater Masaka, Greater Bushenyi and Albertine.
He says that each model will have 12 personnel from different Police Departments like the Crime Intelligence, Child and Family Protection Unit and the Community Liaison Officer with three motorcycles and radio communication devices.
He further assures the country that by February 15th 2025, this policing model will be implemented in a total of 2,190 Sub-Counties and expect to have Government programs like Parish Development Model and Emyooga to be supported.
