The National Unity Platform (NUP) has endorsed lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as its flag bearer for the Kawempe North by-election after attaining 71.4% points.
He now awaits the by-election due to take place on March 13th with NUP the hot favorite to retain the seat.
Counsel Nalukoola beat stiff competition in a crowded party race that included nine other aspirants, including Umar Magala who got 52.8%, Muhammad Luswa Luwemba 35.8% a former aide and confidante of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya and Eng. Kenneth Ssenkungu who got 25.5% among others.
Nalukoola was announced by the Chairperson of the NUP Electoral Management Committee (EMC), Mercy Walukamba.
The Party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has challenged Nalukoola to ‘walk the talk’ and work, be transparent and truthful to the party and the country at large if elected come March 13th.
Meanwhile, Nalukoola has pledged to remain a true servant of NUP, the people of Kawempe North and Uganda if he is elected into parliament.
Some party supporters have expressed happiness after Nalukoola was given the party card ahead of the hotly contested by-election.
