The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has embarked on countrywide tribunal sessions aimed at hearing complaints related to violation of human rights.
This has been disclosed by Pauline Nansamba Mutumba on behalf of the Director Complaints, Investigation and Legal Services at UHRC, saying that this is aimed at reducing the case backlog at the Commission which now stands at 1,100 cases.
She also emphasized that three sessions will be carried out in the central region at their headquarters and in total 17 cases will be heard with 6 cases to be heard each day and other sessions will be held in Soroti, Lira, Gulu and Mbarara.
These sessions come at a time when the Auditor General’s report of the 2023/24 financial year showed concern over the case backlog at UHRC with some cases that have been delayed for over 10 years.
