The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has expressed concern about the health condition of the Col. (Retired) Dr. Kizza Besigye who is currently incarcerated in Luzira Prison which he says is worrying.
In his remarks after the Holy Mass at Kigungu, Archbishop Ssemogerere said it is unfortunate that Dr. Besigye is still detained even when his health condition is worsening, urging the Government to do the needful and allow him seek specialized medical care outside prison.
He added that the country will be ashamed if anything unfortunate happens to Dr. Besigye amidst such negligence.
The Archbishop said that the Church is responsible for praying for prisoners, the sick, and the needy, assuring that they are now praying for a quick recovery for Dr. Besigye.
Meanwhile, the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba has called for fair treatment to all citizens.
In his homily while celebrating mass commemorating 146 years since the arrival of the White Fathers; Bro. Amans Delmas and Fr. Simeon Laurdel (commonly known as Mapeera) in Uganda at Kigugu in Entebbe Municipality on Monday, Bishop Jjumba said equity and equality should be observed and if done, no onewould complain of mistreatment in Uganda, giving an example of Dr. Kizza Besigye who is detained while sick in spite of the Supreme Court ruling which quashed the Court Martial powers to try civilians.
Bishop Jjumba emphasized the importance of love which he said it’s the cornerstone to justice and peace.
He recounted a number of development milestones achieved since the coming of the White Fathers on February 17th 1879 which include; introduction of the Catholic faith and understanding of God, training institutions that include schools and technical colleges that have promoted literacy and skills in various fields, hospitals, and social facilities among others that have transformed society.
The historical pilgrimage that attracted hundreds of faithful was also graced by among others, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, the Pope Nuncio Emeritus, and clergy, political leaders; Eng. Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, the Nakawa East Member of Parliament, Betty Ethel Naluyima, Wakiso Woman Member of Parliament, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, the Wakiso district chairperson among others.
Kibiri Deanery in Entebbe Vicariate that comprises Namasuba, Kibiri, Lweza, Ndejje and Masajja parishes led in the preparations for this year’s pilgrimage at Kigugu.
