John Cossy Odomel, the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) has died.
This is According to Captain Mike Mukula, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region who confirmed the unfortunate news through his X handle (formerly twitter).
Odomel served as IGP from 1992 to 1998. During his tenure, he was recognized for his efforts to professionalize the Uganda Police Force, making it more technocratic and efficient.
After retiring from the Police Force, Odomel ventured into politics. In 2001, he unsuccessfully contested for the Pallisa County parliamentary seat, even with support from the NRM heavyweights. In September 2006, Odomel lost a petition challenging the election of Pallisa MP Louis Opange.
Odomel’s death comes a few days after the death of another former IGP, Okoth Ogola.
