KCCA, Contractors Sign Contracts for GKMA Road Projects

The Ministry for Kampala together with the leadership of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) together has signed contracts with contractors assigned to construct various roads in Kampala under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) project.

The contractors include; China Railways Seventh Group Uganda Limited which will construct 4.56km on Kira road, Build Trust Construction Limited, Multiplex Construction Limited and UCA Insaat, Elektrick Energi Madencilik Sanayi Construction Company.

Others assigned to supervise the contractors include; JBN Consults and Planners Limited, Max and Partners Limited, In Association Cost And Management Consultant Limited and Air, Water and Earth Limited.

The GKMA project will construct 19.85 km and is expected to be done within 18 months with 176.5 billion shillings funding from the World Bank.

Before signing the contract, the State Minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye explained that this project will address challenges within Kampala that among others include; poor roads and drainage channels and warned contractors to be aware of people who pretend to know it all since these have failed many contractors in the past.

The Executive Director of KCCA, Sharifah Buzeki appealed to contractors to avoid delays and deliver the work on time.

She also appealed to the public to bear with the changes that might come with the road construction since there will be traffic diversions in various areas where the construction will be taking place hence being on the road for longer times.

Meanwhile, the Kampala City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago explained that their role as political leaders will be monitoring and they will exert more pressure on contractors to ensure timely delivery because they won’t be able to afford complaints from the public yet contractors are lagging the project behind.
