Buganda kingdom has called upon the Government to prioritize interventions aimed at improving the country’s health sector against other expenses.

The call was made following the suspension of USAID funds by the United States of America President Donald Trump, which funds have been helping many Ugandans especially those living with HIV/AIDS in accessing medication and other life saving services.

According to the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, it is crucial for the Government to take a lead in funding health related initiatives especially HIV/AIDS especially now with the ongoing aid freeze by the US.

He also urged young people to embrace circumcision since it has been proven to save especially men upwards of 60 percent from contracting HIV/AIDS according to health experts.

Mayiga also explained that for the last three years, the Kabaka’s Birthday Run has concentrated on the fight against HIV/AIDS which is still urgent, that is why this year’s Kabaka Birthday Run which will be held on April 6th will focus on the same cause, according to the run’s preparatory committee.

The Katikkiro disclosed this during the launch of the 2025 Airtel Kabaka Birthday Run at the Bulange-Mengo gardens on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, who was born on April 13th 1955 at Mulago Hospital, will this year be celebrating his 70th birthday.
