The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has urged Members of Parliament to pass laws that benefit all Ugandans, rather than serving the interests of a select few.
He made these remarks while leading Ash Wednesday prayers at Lubaga Cathedral today, a day that marks the beginning of the 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving leading up to Easter, which will be celebrated on April 20, 2025.
Archbishop Ssemogerere emphasized that good laws should promote order, peace, good governance, and development, rather than favoring a privileged minority. He stressed that laws rooted in equity, justice, and compassion align with the core values of the Catholic faith.
It is worth noting that the NRM Parliamentary Caucus has already endorsed the comprehensive UPDF Amendment Bill, a significant step in addressing the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling that halted the operations of the UPDF Court Martial.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Ssemogerere encouraged Christians to embrace charity, prayer, and fasting to fully receive the blessings of the Lenten season. He reiterated that fasting is required for those aged 16 to 65, while expectant mothers, the sick, and individuals above 70 years old are exempt.
