The Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, has attributed the drastic reduction in crime within Kampala and its suburbs to the Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl and Boy Child (PISGBC).
Speaking at the Mutundwe Skilling Centre during a student showcase event, Minister Kabanda highlighted Kisenyi as one of the ghetto areas that has greatly benefited from the initiative, with many youths reforming and moving away from criminal activities.
She was so impressed by the program’s impact that she enrolled her own granddaughter at the Mutundwe Skilling Centre.
The Minister urged Ugandans to ensure their family members acquire vocational skills, arguing that this not only reduces household spending on store-bought goods but also empowers youth against political exploitation and forced migration.
Dr. Faith Mirembe Katana, the Special Presidential Assistant on Skilling and Educationand Head of the PISGBC project, showcased various pottery items and announced that pottery will be introduced as a new skill in the next training intake, set for late March 2025.
