Minister Nabakooba urges MPs to fast-track Valuation Bill 2024

Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba

The Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, has called on Members of Parliament to urgently pass the Valuation Bill 2024, which is currently under review by the Parliamentary Physical Infrastructure Committee.

Defending the bill before the committee chaired by Tonny Awany, Nabakooba emphasized that the government has faced major challenges in the valuation profession, including unethical practices.

She explained that these challenges have hindered the implementation of infrastructure projects across the country.

The minister highlighted that the bill seeks to address issues such as rising court awards, high litigation costs, and loss of government revenue, which have complicated project execution.

However, Western Youth MP Edson Rugumayo raised concerns over the ministry’s delay in pushing for amendments to outdated land laws, such as the Surveyors Act, which he argued continues to hinder progress in land transactions.
