Candidates in the Kawempe North by-election have embraced door-to-door campaigns as their primary strategy to engage with voters, citing better interaction and direct engagement with residents compared to traditional rallies.
On Thursday, Democratic Party (DP) candidate Henry Kassacca Mubiru spent the day canvassing for votes in Kawempe 1 Parish, covering areas like Kilokole, Kakungulu, Mbogo, Cate Farawo, Kalule, Kisowera, and Kizza Zone.
Mubiru emphasized redefining leadership and pledged to address the challenges facing boda boda riders and youth employment.
However, he expressed concern about the limited campaign periodgiven the constituency’s vast size.
Other candidates, including FDC’s Mukiibi Sadat (Khalifah Aganaga), People’s Progressive Party’s Ismail Musiitwa, and several independents, are also using this method to appeal to voters.
Meanwhile, NRM’s Faridah Nambi and NUP’s Elias Nalukoola have also opted for door-to-door engagement, particularly in informal settlements, where poor road networks and congestion make rallies difficult to organize.
Kawempe North, a densely populated constituency with nine parishes and 197 polling stations, became vacant following the death of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya in January.
As campaigns intensify, candidates are racing against time to win over voters in this crucial by-election.
