The Uganda Police Force has deployed senior officers at the rank of Superintendent to oversee and maintain security during the Kawempe North Parliamentary by-election, scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025.
A total of 10 candidates are contesting in the by-election, including Faridah Nambi from the ruling NRM party and Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola from the NUP, among others.
According to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, each of the nine parishes in Kawempe North will have a Senior Superintendent responsible for managing security in their respective areas.
These officers will collaborate directly with candidates to address any security concerns and ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.
Rusoke also issued a stern warning to both candidates and voters, urging them not to declare unofficial election results before the official announcement by the Electoral Commission.
He cautioned that such actions could potentially lead to unrestand disrupt the electoral process.
The police assured the public of their dedication to maintaining peace and order during the by-election.
They reiterated that they are fully prepared to ensure a secure and transparent election, and will take swift action against any acts of violence or lawlessness.
