Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Kamya has issued a stern warning to political aspirants and executive committees of all political parties, both in government and opposition to submit their declarations of assets and liabilities before the March 31, 2025, deadline.
Kamya’s directive follows Speaker of Parliament Anita Among’s recent public declaration of her assets and liabilities before the IGG, in compliance with the Leadership Code Act.
The IGG emphasized that aspiring politicians who fail to comply will be barred from contesting in the 2026 general elections.
She also revealed that as of today, only 37% of civil servants and leaders have submitted their declarations, falling significantly short of expectations.
According to the IGG’s 2023 report, 90% of leaders complied with the declaration requirement, while 10% failed to submit their information.
Kamya further disclosed that 143 individuals who provided unsatisfactory responses regarding their declarations were referred to the Leadership Code Tribunal Court for further action.
She urged all civil servants and leaders to adhere to the Leadership Code, warning that failure to comply could result in expulsion from office or suspension.
