MP Naluyima condemns security violence against Journalists, NUP Supporters in Kawempe By-Election

Kawempe By-Election

Wakiso Woman Member of Parliament, Betty Ethel Naluyima has strongly condemned the violent crackdown on journalists and National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters during the Kawempe North by-election, calling it a blatant attack on democracy and press freedom.

Naluyima criticized the actions of security forces, stating that the brutality witnessed must not go unchallenged.

She warned that such acts of repression set a dangerous precedent and should not be allowed to continue in the country.

During the by-election, several journalists were assaulted while covering the events, with some sustaining injuries and others being detained.

Reports indicate that security forces targeted media personnel, raising concerns about press freedom and the right to fair election coverage.

In response to the attacks, media organizations have announced a boycott of all police and military-related events until their concerns are addressed.

The crackdown has sparked outrage from human rights activists, opposition leaders, and civil society organizations, who are demanding accountability and justice for the victims.
