FDC rejects Kawempe North By-Election results, plans legal action

FDC president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has vehemently rejected the results of the recent Kawempe North by-election, where their candidate, Sadat Mukiibi (a.k.a. Khalifah Aganaga), finished fifth with only 239 votes.

The election was won by the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Erias Nalukoola, who received 17,764 votes.

During a press conference at the FDC headquarters, party president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat announced plans to sue the Electoral Commission, holding them accountable for what he termed a “catastrophe” in the election process.

He attributed the disappointing outcome to confusion instigated by security forces.

Amuriat cautioned the NUP to temper their celebrations, suggesting that the government might have plans to block their candidate from taking office as the new Member of Parliament.

He condemned the violence aimed at opposition candidates, supporters, and journalists, asserting that such actions threaten democracy.

He characterized the ruling National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) intention to challenge the election results in court as an effort to undermine the will of the people.
