Kawempe North MP-elect and National Unity Platform (NUP) member, Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, has condemned security operatives for the continued arrest and detention of his former polling agents.
He alleges that the agents are being forced to sign false affidavits intended for use in court by National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Faridah Nambi.
On Monday, a delegation from NUP, led by the party’s Secretary General, Lewis Lubongoya, along with Nalukoola and party lawyer Counsel George Musisi, visited the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters to inquire about the delay in Nalukoola’s swearing-in.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Nalukoola revealed that many of his former polling agents are living in fear, with some having been arrested and detained.
Among those detained, he mentioned Councilor Henry Buule from Kikaaya Parish and William Saka.
Nalukoola strongly condemned what he described as acts of impunity by the government, stating that instead of holding security operatives accountable for violating the rights of Ugandans, authorities are targeting innocent civilians.
He accused security forces of disrupting the election, beating voters, and suppressing the democratic process in Kawempe North.
He further challenged President Museveni to critically assess the situation in Kawempe rather than relying on opportunists within the NRM party for misleading information.
