Ministry of Health promotes 24/2 Initiative to combat Malaria

Malaria Control Division

The Ministry of Health has launched efforts to popularize the 24/2 initiative, a World Health Organization (WHO) strategy aimed at transforming malaria treatment and ensuring rapid recovery for affected individuals.

According to Silver Kasozi, an officer at the Malaria Control Division, the 24/2 initiative emphasizes the urgency of seeking medical care.

The number 24 represents the hours within which a person experiencing malaria symptoms should seek professional medical attention, while 2 signifies the hours within which severely ill patients already at a health facility should receive appropriate medical intervention.

Speaking to our reporter on Monday, Kasozi urged health workers to be more attentive, particularly to infants under the care of young or inexperienced mothers, who may hesitate to seek medical help.

He further revealed that the Ministry of Health is actively promoting the 24/2 approach among leaders at all levels, health facilities, and the media to raise awareness and ensure timely response to malaria cases.

Malaria remains a major public health concern in Uganda, affecting millions annually.

The 24/2 initiative aims to enhance early detection and treatment, ultimately reducing severe cases and fatalities.
