The newly elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, Alias Nalukola, was officially sworn in today at a brief ceremony in the chambers of Speaker Anita Among.
The ceremony was presided over by the Clerk of Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, and attended by several distinguished figures, including Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and Vice President of Buganda National Unity Platform (NUP), Muwanga Kivumbi, along with other NUP MPs.
Speaker Anita Among handed over essential instruments of power to MP Nalukola, including the Constitution of Uganda and the Rules of Procedure, which are crucial for his legislative duties.
She also instructed Clerk Adolf Mwesige to promptly facilitate MP Nalukola’s benefits, including the provision of a vehicle and other allowances entitled to him as a new parliamentarian.
Following the swearing-in, MP Nalukola expressed gratitude to Speaker Among for her swift action in officiating his swearing-in, which followed the official gazette of his victory.
He requested ample time when Parliament reconvenes to address pressing issues facing the people of Kawempe, particularly human rights violations by security forces.
Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also used the occasion to reiterate his demand for an explanation from the government over the alleged brutality and kidnappings of NUP supporters and journalists during the recent Kawempe North by-election.
