The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has deployed over 300 personnel to complete the verification of party members in the voters’ register.
The verification exercise, expected to take 10 days, is aimed at addressing several issues that plagued the 2020 party primaries, such as missing members and other related grievances.
Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, emphasized that the deployed personnel will focus on ensuring that all members below the age of 18 are removed from the register, as they are ineligible to vote.
This move is in response to concerns raised during previous elections, where the accuracy of the voters’ list came into question.
The NRM is estimated to have over 20 million members, and this verification process is a crucial step in ensuring the accuracy of the voter register.
By removing ineligible members and correcting any discrepancies, the party aims to have a more accurate count of eligible voters for future elections.
This exercise is part of a broader initiative to digitalize the NRM’s party membership register.
The digitalization process, which was launched in November 2024, aims to streamline the registration process and ensure the integrity of the membership data.
In addition to the verification, the party has been conducting a nationwide update of its membership register.
As part of this update, registration kits have been dispatched to villages across the country, allowing local members to ensure their information is accurate and up-to-date.
These efforts by the NRM are part of a larger push to enhance transparency, improve internal processes, and ensure that party primaries and general elections are conducted smoothly, with a well-maintained voters’ register.
