The National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) has expressed concern over the government’s unfulfilled pledges made during the first and second global disability summits held in London (2018) and Oslo, Norway (2022).
Among the key unfulfilled commitments are the development of the National Inclusive Education Policy, the National ICT Policy for Persons with Disabilities, Disability Employment Quotas to ensure equal job opportunities, and the publication of annual reports on the employment status of persons with disabilities.
David Nangosi, Programs Officer at NUDIPU, raised these concerns ahead of the third global disability summit, set for April 2-3, 2025, in Berlin, Germany.
He urged the government to prioritize the implementation of these outstanding commitments before making new pledges at the upcoming summit.
Nangosi also appealed to the Ministry of Gender to enhance coordination with relevant ministries responsible for implementing these pledges.
